Troubleshooting CareLink Upload Issues on PC
We will be ending support for Tidepool Uploader 1.x (the Chrome App version) and later this year. Additionally, Medtronic recently disabled the ability for CareLink users to export their data. As a result, we have removed our CareLink integration.
Medtronic 523, 554, 530G, 723, and 754 insulin pumps can be uploaded directly to Tidepool using a Contour Next Link Meter.
CareLink is a site that is heavily dependent upon Java and this can sometimes make it challenging to upload your data to CareLink. This article will show you how to solve Java issues and circumvent required browser version restrictions so that you can upload your data.
1. What do I need to upload to CareLink?
Devices to communicate with Minimed Pumps:
We recommend using a Bayer Contour Next Link meter, which is compatible with USB 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0.
This meter is able to communicate wirelessly with most Minimed insulin pumps and is itself a great meter.
You can also use a beige CareLink USB stick. Please note that this is not directly compatible with USB 3.0 ports. If you have this device, you can use a USB Hub to connect to USB 3.0 ports on your computer.

However, this guide will show you how to upload even if you are on a newer OS or browser.
2. How to upload to CareLink with Internet Explorer
1. Changing the browser version reported to CareLink
Change your user-agent if you are using a newer version of IE than is supported by CareLink.
In Internet Explorer or Edge, navigate to the User Agent menu.
This can be done by opening Developer Options in the Internet Explorer/Edge Tools Menu/Settings Menu.
In IE, you will click on Tools -> F12 Developer Tools
In Edge, you can click the Settings Gear in the upper right-hand corner and then click on F12 Developer Tools.
Then, once the Developer Mode appears in the bottom portion of the window, you can see Browser Mode or Document Mode (IE) or a symbol that shows a computer and a phone (Edge, see below). You can select these menus to change the version of IE that your computer shows itself to be to CareLink.
We recommend selecting the most recent option compatible with CareLink.
2. Fixing Java Security issues
This is what you will do if you are receiving warnings about Java, but you are on a supported version of IE.

In IE, navigate to the Internet Options dialog box via Tools -> Internet Options.
Click on the "Security" tab and select "Internet."
Select "Custom Level" and then "Settings"
Scroll until you see "Scripting of Java applets" and set it to Enable.
Please note that these steps may vary widely depending on the version of IE you are using.
Now, restart your browser and navigate to CareLink once again to see if it will let you in. Please note, if may still show the page that indicates that you do not have the ideal settings for Carelink, but if it has a button allowing you to "Continue" you should click it.
At this point, you should be able to upload to CareLink. If you are not able to, please try restarting your browser and/or computer and attempting the upload again.
