Whether or not you share your data is entirely up to you, the person with diabetes. You are in complete control. Tidepool does not do anything with your data without your explicit permission — this includes giving your clinician or other care team members access to your data. Once you have given permission for others to view your data, you can also choose whether or not they also have the ability to upload your devices via Tidepool Uploader.
Some example sharing use-cases include:
- Sharing your data with a physician or physician's office to view and upload data from a clinic.
- Sharing your data from a child's account with parents or other caregivers to view and upload data.
- Sharing your data with friends to view, so you can share your experiences.
- Sharing your data with a clinical study principal investigator, so they can use your data in their research.
- Sharing your data with the Tidepool Support Team (support@tidepool.org) to help troubleshoot potential problems.

Sharing your Tidepool Data Platform account data from a computer (desktop or laptop)

1. Log in to the Tidepool Data Platform
- First, using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, log in to your Tidepool account at app.tidepool.org.
- From the navigation bar at the top, click on Share on the right side of the page.
2. View sharing permissions
- The next page you see will show everyone that you have granted access to view your data as well as any pending invites you have sent out.
- If you have not yet invited anyone, this screen will be blank, and you will only see the Share Data button.
- If you have shared with your clinic using their Share Code you will see Clinic for the Role.
- If you have shared with another Tidepool Data Platform user (parent/caregiver/friend) by email you will see Member for the Role.
3. Sharing your Tidepool data
There are two methods for sharing: Share with a Clinic (using a Share Code) or Share with a Care Team Member (using an email address).
3a. Share with a Clinic/Doctor's Office/Diabetes Educator (using a 12-digit Share Code)
- Click Share Data from the Share page.
- Confirm Share with a Clinic is selected and input the 12-character code provided to you.
- Click Submit Code.
- Confirm the share code is correct by verifying the name of the clinic or doctor's office.
- Confirm your selection to allow your clinic to upload data on your behalf by checking or unchecking Allow upload of data.
- Click Send Invite.
3b. Share with a Care Team Member (via email)
- Click Share Data from the Share page.
- Confirm Share with a Care Team Member is selected and input the email address of the care team member you want to share with.
- Confirm your selection to allow your care team member to upload data on your behalf by checking or unchecking Allow upload of data.
- Click Invite Member to send the invite.
4. After Inviting
- Once you share your Tidepool Data Platfrm account a notification will be sent letting them know they can accept your invitation to view your data. The Share page will read, INVITE SENT until it has been accepted after which point it will say, SHARING.
- You can click Resend Invite to send another notification or Revoke Invite if you made a mistake, or no longer want to share with this clinic or care team member.
5. Updating Sharing Permissions
- Allow or Remove Upload Permissions
- From the Share page, click on the ... to the right of the clinic or care team member you shared with and click Remove Upload Permission to remove their ability to upload on your behalf or Allow Upload Permission to give them this permission.
- From the Share page, click on the ... to the right of the clinic or care team member you shared with and click Remove Upload Permission to remove their ability to upload on your behalf or Allow Upload Permission to give them this permission.
- Remove Clinic/Account
- From the Share page, click on the ... to the right of the clinic or care team member you shared with and click Remove clinic or Remove account to remove their ability to see your Tidepool Data Platform account.
- From the Share page, click on the ... to the right of the clinic or care team member you shared with and click Remove clinic or Remove account to remove their ability to see your Tidepool Data Platform account.
Sharing your Tidepool Data Platform account data from your smartphone
1. Log into the Tidepool Data Platform
- Using your phone's web browser navigate to app.tidepool.org.
- Enter your email address and password and tap Log in.
2. Share your Tidepool Data Platform account data
2a. Sharing with a Clinic/Doctor's Office/Diabetes Educator (using a 12-digit Share code)
- After logging in, tap on the hamburger icon (three lines) at the top right of the page.
- From the menu, tap on Share.
- On the Share page, tap Share Data.
- Enter the 12-digit Share Code from your Clinic and tap Submit Code.
Don't know the 12-digit share code? Contact your doctor's office to ask them for this special number to link your Tidepool Data Platform account data to their clinic workspace. - Confirm your clinic's name on the next page and tap Send Invite to finalize your invitation.
- After tapping Send Invite you will see your invitation in the invite sent status
- After your clinic/diabetes care team accepts the invitation you will see the status change to Sharing.
- At any point, you can revoke your sharing to your clinic/diabetes care team by tapping on the kebab (...) button on the Share page and tapping Remove Clinic.
- You will be asked to confirm your removal on the next page. Tap Leave Clinic to confirm your removal.
2b. Share with a Care Team Member (via email)
- After logging in, tap on the hamburger icon (three lines) at the top right of the page.
- From the menu, tap on Share.
- On the Share page, tap Share Data.
- Tap the toggle for Share with a Care Team Member and input the email address of the person you want to share with. If they do not have a Tidepool Data Platform account, they will be invited to make one when receiving your invitation. Optionally check or uncheck Allow upload of data if they will be helping you upload data to your Tidepool Data Platform account from Tidepool Uploader on their computer.
- Tap Invite Member to confirm the invitation.
- You will see a notification indicating you have completed the invitation as well as an invite sent status on the Share page. Once the Care Team member accepts the invitation it will change to say sharing.
- At any point, you can revoke your sharing to your clinic/diabetes care team by tapping on the kebab (...) button on the Share page and tapping Remove Care Team Member.
- Confirm your decision to remove by tapping Remove User
