Learn about the Tidepool Big Data Donation Project

You can support other diabetes non-profit organizations through the Tidepool Big Data Donation Project.

Any time an industry partner uses Tidepool's paid dataset qualification services and your donated dataset is selected, Tidepool will donate 10% of the proceeds to a non-profit organization of your choice.

New to Tidepool?

• Create your account at tidepool.org/signup.
• Follow the instructions to verify your email and complete your account setup.
• During setup, you will see a brief introduction to the Tidepool Big Data Donation Project
  
  
   
• At the bottom of these screens, choose:
  • Yes, I’m Interested → Continue to consent form.
  • No, Thanks → Skip donation and finish setup.
• If you click Yes, I’m Interested, you will be shown the Informed Consent Form:
  
  
   
• You must scroll to the very bottom of the form to enable the consent checkbox and Submit button.
• Check the box: Yes – I have read this form and give my consent by checking this box and clicking submit.
  
  
   
• Click Submit.
• After you sign and submit:
  • Your consent is recorded in your Tidepool account with an electronic signature and date.
  • You will also receive a confirmation email with a PDF copy of your signed consent form. The PDF lists the signer’s name(s) and date(s) of signature. If you are between ages 13-17 and have had a parent or caregiver consent and sign, both names and the date of consent will be shown.
• After signing, you can select a nonprofit diabetes organization from the dropdown menu. If your data is included in a paid project, 10% of proceeds will be donated to that nonprofit.
  
  
   
• Begin uploading your data using the Tidepool Uploader or by connecting your diabetes device account. See Tidepool's guides on uploading devices with Tidepool Uploader here or ones for connecting your diabetes device account here.

Already have a Tidepool account?

• Sign in to your Tidepool Web account at app.tidepool.org.
• From the top navigation bar, click Profile.
  
  
• Scroll to THE TIDEPOOL BIG DONATION PROJECT section. You will see the brief introduction above the Yes, I’m Interested button.
  
  
   
• Click Yes, I’m Interested.
  • You will be shown the Informed Consent Form.
    
    
     
  • You must scroll to the very bottom to enable the consent checkbox and Submit button.
  • Check the box: Yes – I have read this form and give my consent by checking this box and clicking submit.
    
    
     
  • Click Submit.
  • After you sign and submit:
    • Your consent is recorded in your Tidepool account with an electronic signature and date.

Viewing Your Consent Status

You can view your data donation consent at any time in your Profile.

• Sign in to your Tidepool Web account at app.tidepool.org
• From the top navigation bar, click Profile.
  
  

If you already participate, you will see:

• The date of your donation consent
• The nonprofit diabetes organization you selected, if any
• An option to Stop Sharing Data
  
  
   
• If you consented through the Informed Consent process, it will show You consented on [Date of Consent]. If you are between ages 13-17 and have had a parent or caregiver consent and sign, both names and the date of consent will be shown.
• If you click Stop Sharing Data and later choose Yes, I’m Interested again, you will be asked to sign the informed consent form again before your data donation restarts.

Opting Out of the Tidepool Big Data Donation Project

You can change your data donation preference at any time.

• Sign in to your Tidepool account at app.tidepool.org.
• From the top navigation bar, click Profile.
  
  
   
• Scroll to the Tidepool Big Data Donation Project section.
• Click Stop Sharing Data.
  
  
   
• Click Yes, stop sharing to confirm your choice.
