This article assumes you:
- Have a Tidepool Clinician account — Only Clinician users can use two-factor authentication (2FA)
- Have 2FA already enabled — Need to set it up? See Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Once 2FA is turned on, you will see a few extra steps each time you log in. Here's what to expect.
Step 1: Enter your email
Go to the Tidepool log in page and enter your email address. Click Next.
You will also see a Remember me checkbox. This keeps you logged in to your session for longer, so you don't have to log in as often. It does not save or fill in your email for the next person who uses this computer.
Step 2: Enter your password
Enter your password and click Next.
Step 3: Enter your authenticator code
Open the authenticator app on your phone. It will show a 6-digit code for Tidepool.
Type that code into the box on the screen and click Log In.
The code changes every 30 seconds, so make sure you're using the latest one. If you're not near your phone or authenticator app, click Try a Different Log In Method to use a recovery code if you cannot access your authenticator app. Learn more in Managing your 2FA Recovery Codes.
Step 4: Decide whether to trust this device
After you log in, you may see a screen asking if you want to trust this device.
- Yes, trust this device — Tidepool will remember this device for up to 30 days. You won't need to enter a 2FA code again until then.
- No, require verification each time — Tidepool will ask for a 2FA code every time you log in on this device.
On your work computer, choosing "Yes, trust this device" can save you time.
On a shared or clinic computer, always choose No, require verification each time. Trusting a shared computer means the next person who uses it could get into your account without entering a 2FA code if they knew your email address and password.
Have questions? Ask your local IT team for guidance on how they'd like you to manage 2FA on shared devices.
