Signing up for Tidepool as a Person with Diabetes

This article assumes you do not have a Tidepool account, but that you want to create one.

Both personal and clinician accounts are free. This walk-through details the process for signing up for a personal account as a person with diabetes wanting to upload their own data. See our Signing up for Tidepool as a Clinician guide if you are a clinician.

1. Sign up for your Tidepool account

  • Go to tidepool.org/signup to begin the process of creating your free Tidepool account.
  • Input your email address and pick and confirm a password.
  • Click Create Account.
  • Click Personal from the two options.
  • Click Continue.
  • Review Tidepool's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use and then select the option that applies to you, the person creating the Tidepool account.

Please Note: You will have to select your age and the checkbox that you are 18 or older and agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. 

If you are a caregiver: If you are signing up for an account for your child or someone you care for, please answer the age questions from your perspective — assuming you are over 18, select that as your age. 

  • Check the box to the left of I am 18 or older...
  • Click Accept.
  • Next you will see a screen letting you know Tidepool is sending you a message with a link to verify your email address.
  • Check your email to find an email from noreply@tidepool.org with the subject Verify your Tidepool account.
  • Click the Verify Your Account button.
  • On the Welcome page, enter your First and Last name for yourself.
  • Select the option that describes who the account is for. If you are selecting the option of "creating an account on behalf of someone I care for who has diabetes" add their name in the field that appears.
  • Click Next.
  • Enter your birthday and when you were diagnosed using the calendar picker. 
    If you do not know your exact diabetes diagnosis date, don't worry! Pick the date that is your best guess.
  • Lastly, pick the type of diabetes you live with.
  • Click Next
  • On the next screen you will see information about the Tidepool Big Data Donation Project. Click Yes, I'm Interested to read and agree to the Informed Consent document. You can click No, Thanks if you do not wish to participate. If you change your mind later, you can click on Profile to sign up later.

  • Finish the steps for donating your anonymized data to the Tidepool Big Data Donation Project.
  • You are now done with setting up your account and can start uploading data by connecting your diabetes device account like Dexcom, LibreView, or your My twiist Portal account by clicking Connect a Device Account. Or if you have a device you want to connect to your computer click Upload Data Directly with Tidepool Uploader. Visit tidepool.org/devices to see a searchable list of which devices Tidepool Uploader supports.
