1. What is the Daily view?
Upon logging into Tidepool Web, you can access the Daily view by clicking on the Daily option in the header at the top of the page.
The Daily view will display data from the following devices:
- Blood glucose meters
- Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM)
- Insulin pumps
- Notes that have been entered from Tidepool Web, Tidepool Mobile on iOS or Tidepool Mobile on Android
This view lets you see interactions between insulin delivery, carb ingestion, and blood glucose levels.
In the example above, you are seeing data from a Tandem t:slim X2, which includes data from a Dexcom G6 CGM. Regardless of the device, the data will look the same in Tidepool — although, we do things a little differently for Medtronic 670G insulin pump data and Tandem t:slim X2 pumps with Control-IQ Technology.
2. Navigating dates and times
There are three ways to get to different dates or times: by date navigation, quick browsing, or time range.
Date navigation
You can go backward and forward in time by using the date navigation arrows in the header bar. The single arrows will move the date by a single day, and the arrow with the line will move you to the end of the data.
Clicking the icon next to the currently displayed date allows you to pick a specific day by inputting a date in mm/dd/yyyy format or clicking on a date using the calendar and clicking on a day. Click Apply to navigate to the specific date.
Quick browsing
For faster browsing, you can adjust the visible range of data by using the scroll bar along the bottom of the view.
Time range
If you want to move the time range that is visible a few hours backward or forward, click anywhere in the background of the data field and drag towards the left or right.
Please note: If you recently uploaded data to Tidepool and do not see recent data, click "Refresh" in the lower left-hand corner of the page to reload the view.
3. Adding notes
You can create notes to add more context to the diabetes data — notes can be about an event, food you ate, or a goal you set at the last visit with a clinician. The note will appear in the timeline next to the Add Note icon, along with notes you enter from Tidepool Mobile. You will also see any notes that have been added by those you have invited to view data in this field.
There are three ways to add notes:
- Click the "New Note" button to the far left.
- Click anywhere on the Notes bar to create a note at that time.
- Add notes on Tidepool Mobile on iOS or Tidepool Mobile on Android.
4. Blood glucose readings
On the left, you can see the scale for the blood glucose (BG) values.
A "Source: Linked" blood glucose indicates that the BG reading came directly from a BG meter device, because it was linked wirelessly to the pump. Example - Medtronic MiniMed 670G and Contour Next Link 2.4 Meter
In contrast, this is a "Source: Manual" BG reading, originated via manual entry into the pump's bolus calculator, or written into Apple Health by an app and uploaded using Tidepool Mobile on iOS.
5. Boluses and carbohydrates
Normal bolus
Calculated bolus
Extended bolus
Bolus Override or Underride
Interrupted bolus
6. Basal Rates
The Basal Rates area shows the scale on the left in Units per hour. It displays an area shaded blue for delivered basal rates and uses a dotted line to represented scheduled basal rates that were not delivered due to a temporary basal rate. Using your mouse to hover over any of the areas will give you more information.
Here you can see a basal rate that was delivered as scheduled:
Here is a temporary basal rate that is less than the scheduled amount, followed by the text you'll see when you hover:
Finally, a pump suspension can be seen as follows:
For insulin pumps with an automatic basal suspend feature like Basal-IQ or Medtronic's Predictive Low Blood Glucose Suspend (PLGS), the basal section will show flags for automatic basal suspensions indicating where they start (S), and when the normal basal rate resumes (R).
Basal rate data is displayed uniquely for Medtronic 670G insulin pump data and Tandem t:slim X2 pumps with Control-IQ Technology to account for their unique delivery modes.
7. Aggregate statistics
Each statistic shows information about the 24-hour period shown in the Daily view fields above. If the stat is gray, this is due to a lack of necessary information to complete the statistic. The stats do change based on what 24-hour period is being displayed on the Daily view. For example: if you have the left edge of the Daily view start at 12 pm you will see stats for the 24 hours after that.
Time in Range
The Time In Target Range widget shows the percentage of the time that the user's blood glucose was below target (light red and dark red), in range (green), or above target (light purple and ). This stat will take into account CGM data, as long as 75% of the total number of possible CGM readings in a day are present.
Blood glucose meter readings are taken into account so long as there are at least four readings in the twenty-four-hour period.
Average Glucose
The Average Glucose is the average BG for that same 24-hour period from either a CGM or BGM, and one can choose which is displayed by using the toggle above the stats section on the top-right of the aggregate stats section.
Total Insulin
The Total Insulin widget shows how much basal insulin is delivered versus insulin taken as a bolus. For this stat to populate, the basal data must be continuous for the 24-hour period that is visible.
Total Carbs
The Total Carbs widget shows you the total amount of carbohydrates uploaded from an insulin pump or from carbohydrate data from Apple Health uploaded via Tidepool Mobile. Please reach out to support@tidepool.org if you have any questions or feedback on this article.
