What To Do If You and Your Child Have Diabetes

Do you have multiple family members with diabetes? Read on to learn about how to set up multiple accounts and how to share the data between the accounts.

1. Sign up for individual Tidepool Web accounts for each person with diabetes

Start by signing up for a Tidepool Web account at tidepool.org/signup for each person with diabetes in the family. Check out our Signing up for Tidepool article for more information on the signup process.

NOTE: Each account needs its own email address to create the account.

2. Share the child's account with the parent/caregiver's account

Once the two accounts are created, log into the child's Tidepool Web account and use our Share your Data article to share the child's account with the parent/caregiver's account. This will allow you to log into the parent/caregiver's account, but also view the child's account and data, and also upload data for the child's account with Tidepool Uploader.

What you will see when you log in as the parent/caregiver account

After having shared the child's account with the parent/caregiver's account, log in as the parent/caregiver on your computer using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge at app.tidepool.org

You will be presented with a screen that looks like this. In this example, Dave is the parent, and Luna is the child.

Click on View for either yourself (the parent/caregiver) or for the child to view the data in that account. Click on Upload to launch Tidepool Uploader on your computer. Select the person you want to upload for by selecting their name in the dropdown.

Select the device(s) you want to upload for the account you have selected, and make sure you have the correct time zone chosen to match the device you are uploading.

Ensure you have the correct person selected in Tidepool Uploader before clicking Upload to prevent accidental uploading to the wrong account.


3. Use Tidepool Mobile to create notes on either account

If you use Tidepool Mobile to make notes on your account, now you can also make notes for your child's account by switching profiles.

What if I have more than one child with diabetes?

You can create additional accounts for each child with diabetes in the family and share those accounts with the parent/caregiver account allowing you to use a single login to view the data for all the accounts in your family.
